We are in the process of selecting another Vice Chairman.
In 1997, Garrett Martin married Audrey (Yoder). They have four children. Garrett is the former Vice President of MM Drainage Inc, which he co-owned with his father, Mark Martin. They worked together in that business for 21 years. In 1999, Garrett and Audrey were part of a church plant in Nappanee, IN. They served there in numerous leadership roles until 2009 when they joined the Townline Mennonite congregation in Shipshewana, IN. Garrett served as church elder from
2011-2016. In 2016, he was ordained as an Associate Pastor, a role he continues to serve today.
In 2010, Garrett and Audrey spent four days at Grace Haven Ministries. While at the ministry, they were shown how to take their emotional pain and brokenness to Jesus Christ for healing. Garrett and Audrey reflect back on this experience as a crucial time of healing and restoration both in their lives personally and in their marriage. He became involved in the ministry and served on the Grace Haven Executive Board from 2011-2014. During this time, Garrett and Audrey spent a week at Caring for the Heart in Colorado Springs, CO for pastoral training. For the past 2 years, they have been meeting with couples in a follow-up role on behalf of Grace Haven. Garrett and Audrey have a desire to walk beside individuals and couples to understand the brokenness they face and to help them find resolution and healing in Jesus Christ.
First, I will share a little bit about my background and how God led me into this ministry. I was born & raised in Topeka, IN with 7 brothers and sisters. My parents were old order Amish. We lived on 125 acre farm prior to my father purchasing a harness shop business in which I worked for approx. 15 years. I married my wife Charlotte, and in '92 we moved to Millersburg, OH where I worked at Weaver Leather for what I thought would be beginning a new line of harnesses for the large company. Instead, I believe it was the Lord's way of exposing me to a place called "Freedom Hills." The new harness line didn't take off as expected, and my wife and I felt our hearts being gently drawn to this fairly new ministry located in Walhonding, OH. We committed to serving at this ministry if our house would sell. The day after we told our church where we were attending that we would go, a young man knocked on our door early in the morning, not knowing what we had said to our church and asked if we were interested in selling! I say all that to just say how God led us in such wonderful ways to this ministry!
We were at Freedom Hill almost seven years. We thought we were going there to assist others who needed "help" but God instead took us through a cleaning process of our own hearts & minds, and then He could use us. I went thinking, "I will never counsel, we're just going to be houseparents." God didn't push it on me but He gave my heart time to let it become my desire. It was a privilege to help lead others to freedom.
In 2000 we moved back to Indiana. For several years I managed a grocery store in Topeka. I enjoyed meeting people and the work, and wasn't looking for anything to do with counseling at the time, but I still got calls asking for help from people locally. Other pastors I talked to felt like we needed a "Freedom Hills" here in this area. So many pastors work bi-vocational jobs and can't take the time to help their people like they wanted to. After many meetings with other pastors, "Grace Haven" became a reality.
Over the last 12 years I have furthered my training in Colorado Springs, CO with Caring for the Heart Ministries. I have been richly blessed with this material and praise the Lord for what he's doing here at Grace Haven through the power of his word and prayer.
My wife and I have 6 children, 2 married and 4 still at home. We homeschool and raise/train Labs as a side business from our home.
I recently stepped aside as the lead pastor at Townline Mennonite Church so I could solely focus on Grace Haven.
Beth has been serving as receptionist at Grace Haven since the spring of 2015. She cheerfully answers the phone and keeps the office running smoothly. Her job also includes designing our bimonthly Newsletters, and keeping the building clean. She lives in Sturgis, Michigan and attends Calvary Chapel.
Garrett & Audrey Martin Family
Our Executive Board consists of seven men from local conservative Anabaptist churches, two pastors and five lay brothers. These men provide valuable direction and discernment of God's will in current decisions for the ministry. They are pictured below with their wives.
Christina meets with single ladies, helping them find answers to the questions in their hearts and leading them to Jesus, the One who heals damaged hearts. We are so blessed and excited to have Christina Miller on staff at Grace Haven. We love her sensitive spirit and caring heart.
